Music lessons should feel safe. For every young learner.
RLGL is built for one-on-one connection between adults and children. That responsibility shapes every part of how the platform works.
Verified instructors
Every instructor who teaches young students passes an enhanced background check, funded by RLGL — not a self-attestation.
Every lesson recorded
Lessons with minors are recorded automatically — for replay, for safety review, and as evidence if anything goes wrong.
Guardian-first accounts
Parents own the account, see every message, watch every replay, and control who can teach their child.

A significant portion of RLGL's students are minors. Adults have one-on-one video access to children. That creates a responsibility that exceeds typical marketplace safety — and we've designed every policy here around a single question: What if the student is a 10-year-old?
Section 01
Six principles, every day
Trust isn't a feature. It's a posture. These are the principles we work from — they shape both the platform and how our team responds when something doesn't feel right.
Proactive, not reactive. Safety infrastructure ships before incidents, not after.
Evidence-based decisions. Every lesson is recorded, so investigations rest on what actually happened — not on conflicting stories.
Children first. If a policy is safe for a 10-year-old, it's safe for everyone.
Block early, block easily. You can remove yourself from any interaction immediately, silently, without justification.
Proportional consequences. Responses scale with severity — from a nudge to a permanent ban — with no single complaint causing deactivation unless danger is imminent.
Transparency with boundaries. The rules are clear and public. Investigation details and reporter identities stay confidential.
Section 02
Verified instructors, not self-attested
Every instructor who teaches a student under 18 has cleared an enhanced background check that goes beyond a basic identity screen. RLGL pays for these checks — they aren't optional, and they aren't an extra fee on the instructor.
Identity verification
Government-issued ID match, SSN trace, and identity confirmation through an API-integrated verification provider.
Multi-jurisdiction criminal records
National, federal, and state-level criminal record search across every state of residence in the past seven years.
Sex offender + child safety registries
National sex offender registry and state-level child abuse and neglect registries. A match here is an automatic and non-appealable disqualification.
Renewed every two years
Background checks expire and re-run every 24 months. Instructors get reminders 60 and 30 days before — and lose minor-booking access if they let it lapse.
Unlike Airbnb, which can't review a stay, or Uber, which can't review a ride — we can review the actual interaction. That changes everything.
Section 03
Every lesson with a minor is recorded
Recording is the platform's primary safety mechanism. It deters misconduct, gives guardians transparency, and means investigations rest on evidence — not on conflicting stories. For lessons involving a student under 18, it cannot be turned off.
Automatic by design. Recording begins when both parties join. The recording indicator stays visible the whole time.
Guardians own the replay. Parents can watch the entire lesson back, any time, from their dashboard.
Restricted access. Only the student, the guardian, and the instructor can view the recording. RLGL admin only opens replays during an active safety review.
Replays survive instructor departure. If an instructor leaves the platform, students keep access to their lesson library.
No distribution. Recordings cannot be downloaded or shared off-platform. Doing so is a Code of Conduct violation.
Instructors who decline recording can't teach minors.
This is communicated up front during onboarding. Recording is non-negotiable for any lesson involving a student under 18.
Section 04
The guardian holds the keys
A minor cannot create a standalone RLGL account. Every minor profile is a sub-profile under a guardian account, and the guardian is the primary account holder. They're not a passive observer — they're the person RLGL is in a relationship with.
Sees every message
Guardians have full read access to every message between the instructor and the student — in real time, with no ability to delete from the guardian's view.
Watches every replay
Every lesson the minor takes is replayable from the guardian dashboard, indefinitely.
Blocks instructors instantly
A guardian can remove any instructor from the minor's experience at any time. No reason required, no notification sent.
Receives every safety notification
All safety alerts, lesson summaries, and platform communications go to the guardian — never to the minor account directly.
Section 05
Messaging that parents can see
Instructors can never send a direct message to a minor that the guardian cannot see. Period.
Guardian-Only mode (default for under 13)
All messages between the instructor and the student go to and from the guardian. The minor doesn't message directly. The instructor sees: "Messages with [Minor]'s guardian."
CC Guardian mode (default for ages 13–17)
The student sees and participates in messages, but every message — sent and received — is copied to the guardian in real time. The full thread is always visible to the parent.
Guardians can switch between modes at any time. If a guardian doesn't open messages for 30+ days, our team is alerted to check in on engagement — because oversight only works if it's actually happening.
Section 06
One tap to walk away
Anyone — student, guardian, instructor — can block any other user at any time, from anywhere they show up: profile, search results, message thread, lesson history. No justification, no friction, no notification to the other party.
The blocked user disappears from your search results, and you disappear from theirs.
Existing message threads are archived. Neither party can send new messages.
Scheduled lessons between blocked parties are auto-cancelled, with refund per the cancellation policy.
Profiles are mutually hidden. The other person sees "This profile is not available" — never a pointed error message.
The blocked user is never notified that they were blocked.
Section 07
Reporting is built into every surface
A "Report a concern" option lives wherever interactions happen — during a lesson, after a lesson, on a profile, on a review, in messages, on the community board. You should never have to hunt through settings to flag something.
During a lesson
An always-visible "Report a concern" button. Selecting "I feel unsafe right now" ends the lesson immediately and pages on-call admin.
After a lesson
"Help with this lesson" is available in lesson history for 7 days. Conduct concerns route separately from quality issues, so the right team handles each.
Inside any conversation
"Report this conversation" is in the menu of every message thread.
From the Safety Center
A general intake for any concern that doesn't fit the other surfaces. Available without logging in.
Reporting in good faith — even if the complaint isn't upheld — never carries consequences. Your identity is never shared with the person you reported.

Section 08
How we respond
Reports involving minors take precedence over everything else in the queue. Our standards:
Triage within one hour for any report involving a student under 18.
Investigation begins within four hours, including review of the lesson replay.
Resolution within 48 hours for critical reports — same day for emergencies.
Emergency suspension for any allegation of inappropriate behavior toward a minor — pending investigation, not after it.
Mandatory external reporting when child safety law requires it. RLGL will cooperate fully with law enforcement and may proactively contact authorities in cases of imminent danger.
